Red Ball of Fire
First this is not a Photoshop layered photo, it looks it but is not. Using TPE App found the location For this shot. From the South Jetties at NS Mayport. The sun sets further northward as Spring shifts to Summer. I took a break early from raking leaves and went after grilling to my sunset location, everything was big and bright till a big sea breeze black cloud BUT as I was packing my gear the sun appeared below a black cloud all was grey then colors came from everywhere. The grey cloud the sun shown through gave that once in a time filtering to capture it cleanly without having to wear sunglasses. Towers 9.87 miles, House on river bank 2.41 miles away. Canon T2i Bracketed +/- 2 ev in AV mode. Used my 55-250 mm at 250 mm f 32 ISO 100 for clean depth and this time manual spot metering on the right tower manual focus on the towers. PP with Photomatix (for speed) then Lightroom 5 with Nik Software (dust removal and some filters/noise reduction). With the TPE App I look at sun rise/sets Moon rise/sets then will look for big landmarks or small to capture both, sometime will plan months ahead then watch the weather the day of a shot but no big deal the same shot will come back 6 months later from the opposite direction.
